Origin: Tolima, Colombia
Process: Washed
Varietal: Gesha
Producer: Astrid Medina
Farm: Buena Vista
Astrid runs Buena Vista alongside her husband, Raúl Antonio Durán—himself from a long line of local coffee growers—and her younger sister. Their farm sits at more than 1,800 meters above sea level in the remote highlands of southern Tolima, a region that for many years was overlooked by buyers due to guerrilla activity and limited access.
Everything changed in 2014 when Medina began producing specialty coffee through a Fedecafé program focused on developing late‑harvest lots. Her dedication and meticulous work quickly gained attention. In 2015, she earned one of Colombia’s highest honors in coffee: the Cup of Excellence, selling her lot for 10x above the C-price at the time.
When asked how she would use the premium from the COE lot, she replied "I will invest it in improving our house, providing better living conditions for our farm manager, our employees, expanding the “beneficiadero” (post-harvest processing facilities), because we think about growing more coffee in the future, having better technology, improving everything.
