Stonefruit Beach

Founded in 1976, the Layo Teraga cooperative provides market access for its smallholder members that would otherwise not have existed in Guji, where prices for coffee have historically been lower because of the lack of market access. Located in northern Uraga in the Guji zone, the 1841 smallholder members of the cooperative grow coffee in semi-forested gardens around their homes at staggeringly high elevations.

The Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in Ethiopia cultivated some of Ethiopia’s vast collection of varieties in 1974. Most of these varieties start with 74 to represent the year they were catalogued, with a 3 digit number afterwards to represent the order of when they were catalogued.
